Charter Guide

What to Expect on Your First Boat Charter

From Dock to Destination: A First-Time Renter’s Complete Guide

Booking a boat charter should feel as relaxing as the day itself. Whether you’re planning a weekend escape or celebrating something special, knowing what to expect can make all the difference. At BoatSitterUS, we simplify the entire experience so you can focus on making memories, not managing logistics.

Before You Arrive: Booking & Confirmation

Once you find the perfect boat on our site, booking takes just a few clicks. You’ll choose your date, select your preferred time slot (4, 6, or 8 hours), and decide whether you’d like a captain or will be operating the boat yourself (if eligible).

Shortly after booking, you’ll receive:

  • A confirmation email with your itinerary
  • A reminder text 24 hours before your charter
  • Contact info for your assigned captain or booking manager

Pro Tip: Confirm the departure location ahead of time — some boats leave from marinas, others from private docks.

Arrival & Check-In

Arrive at the dock 15 to 20 minutes before your scheduled time. A BoatSitterUS team member or your captain will greet you, walk you through a quick safety briefing, and show you around the vessel.

What you’ll typically cover:

  • Location of life vests and emergency gear
  • How to use onboard features like the sound system, cooler, and bathroom
  • Your custom route or requested stops

Suggested media: Clip of guests being welcomed aboard, captain shaking hands, or walking through the boat

On the Water: The Experience

Once you’re underway, you’ll cruise out into the intercoastal or ocean depending on your selected route. Your captain can take you to:

  • Sandbars for swimming or lounging
  • Secluded islands or coves
  • Scenic routes along luxury waterfronts
  • Waterside restaurants and bars

Most charters come with:

  • Bluetooth sound system
  • Cooler with ice
  • Swim ladder or floaties
  • Optional jet ski or paddleboard add-ons

Suggested media: Video of the boat cruising, guests jumping in, drone shot of anchor spot

Food & Drinks: BYO or Add-On

You’re welcome to bring your own food, drinks, and even décor. Want us to handle it for you? Just let us know at checkout and we can arrange:

  • Catered platters
  • Bartender service
  • Champagne upgrades

Please: no red wine, glass bottles, or confetti.

Wrapping Up: Return & Departure

As your time winds down, the captain will begin the journey back to the dock. You’ll disembark with:

  • Everything you brought
  • A few unforgettable memories
  • And hopefully, some amazing photos

Our team will follow up with a message after your trip to get feedback and invite you to share your experience online.

Suggested media: Group photo at the end of trip or sunset on return ride

Final Checklist for First-Timers

  • Sunscreen
  • Swimsuit and towel
  • ID (if you’re the one booking)
  • Snacks and drinks
  • Portable charger for your phone
